Welcome to Yacck - we hope you have great pleasure in reading the stories from the past and would love you to make positive comments for everyone to enjoy. The Yacck Team.
Looking back at 1936, thanks Ken for sending me in the stories.
Pioneer defeated Albion 12 points to 6 at the Gore Showgrounds on a very heavy ground. Pioneer came out the better team and attacked from the first whistle, and ended up scoring 4 tries.
The teams were:
Pioneer (red and white) Tutty, L. Crawford, A. Crawford, Sizemore, Miles, Newman, O. Taylor, Collins, Robins, Mattingly, Chalmers, Columb, Veitch, McKinlay, Kelly.
Albion (red, yellow and black) Sutherland, Holt, Martin, Wylie, Ussher, Bell, McDougall, Greer, Deans, Henderson, Keown, Stewart, Soper, Spittle, Ward.
Chalmers was the player that scored the first try for Pioneer, by breaking through the line and propelling himself over the line.
Pioneer hooked a ball from the scrum but lost it in contact, which was kicked back to Tutty who had a good run and passed to Crawford and then back on the inside to Tutty again, and then on to Sizemore. The latter was tackled who spilled the ball to Crawford - score.
Tutty was involved in the third try where he passed to Newman - score.
Pioneer was then penalised in their 25 and Albion got their first points with Martin successful with a penalty goal.
The final try came about by every Pioneer back handling the ball and finished with R. Crawford scoring.
Pioneer almost scored again when A. Crawford and Sizemore were racing for the line, with only the full back to beat, but a forward pass was ruled.
