Roy - Southland has put out some very good musicians and I send you this article from 1990 ......
Yacck - Thanks for that will put it on website. You are right Invercargill was more about sports.
Celebrating 150 years of Music in New Zealand, the Southland Musicians Club produced a one off Vice-regal Music Spectacular that involved 300 people.
David Naylor, from Wellington at the time, had been home for 'Visions' 25th anniversary and gave the club the idea of holding this spectacular.
Trevor Daly said that the show was a huge undertaking for a small club, with a light, sound and visual production never seen in Invercargill before.
The production show-cased New Zealand's history and started with the Kohanga Reo children's group.
Chris Chilton wrote the narrative and was spoken by Malcolm Gayfor.
Some of the groups involved were; Live Wire, Vision, London Poly Plop, Moral Fibre, The Crazy Rhythm Big Band, Southern Dixie, Invercargill Symphonia, H and H Cougar Brass, The Invercargill Caledonia Pipe Band and Suzanne Prentice, Invercargill Rock and Roll Club, Taire Taina Cook Island Culture Group, Southland Youth Choir, Irish and Scottish Societies, Coral Country Music Clubs, Southland Country Music Association and Glen Country Music Club.
