SBHS FIRST XV overwhelmed by trip to North Island in 1982

Southland Boys High School first XV found freezing and gale force winds harder to compete with than their opposition Palmerston North Boys High School.  This was an invitational Rugby tournament at Palmerston North  Boys High School. 

Palmerston Boys High School, steam rolled SBHS 28-6 and scoring six tries in the process.  Southland had the advantage of the wind in the first half and although kicking tactics kept its hopes alive all they managed to get out of the half was a penalty goal.
PNBHS led 4-3 at half time.
In the second half when they turned around and the home team had the wind at their back, and also winning a feast of ball, it completely dominated play.  
PNBHS backline played exceptionally well and  completely outplayed SBHS.  They were well supported by their loose forwards who included New Zealand's U17 representative Emosi Koloto who himself added five tries.
SBHS captain, Paul Henderson and prop Martin Smith and half-back Milton Haig were the blues best players.  Henderson and Haig each kicked a penalty goal for Southland.
