Cardinals beat Demons 4-3 in the local Invercargill softball competition in 1976.  This was an interesting game as it now puts them on the top of the table with Demons.

Earlier games saw Cardinals beat Panthers, were the leaders.  Demons had struggled to beat Marist and really needed the win over Panthers to stay at the top.
In the play offs Cardinals got off to a fast start with John Purdue hitting a three bagger and Bill Somerville hit him home.  Two innings later, Jock Williamson put his team even further ahead with a home run.
Demons turned the game around with Russell Frisby batting two runs.
Scores:
Hitters;  Cardinals  -  Roger Keith, John Purdue (3)), Bill Sommerville and Jock Williamson (2)
Demons - Noel Eade, Russell Frisby,  Trevor Anderson, Kevin Herrett (1)
Pitching; Roger Keith 25 hitters, 8 strikeouts, 4 hits
Rex Pankhurst 5 batters, 3 hits
Jamie Campbell 10 batters, 4 strikeouts, 1 walk, 3 hits.

Cardinals then came up against Marist and produced a great batting display in hitting five in the first two innings.   Garth Tattersfield just returning from overseas showed his class by hitting a  home run to put his team three up.
Cardinals took 10 hits to Marist's five and the game was tight with neither team giving anything and having only one error each.
Marist with the help of Kerry Grace got closer to their opposition, but Cardinals fought back with Killen hitting a three bagger, the Graeme Stevens sealed the game with a two run homer at the top of the seventh.
Hitters; Cardinals - Roger Keith, Graeme Stevens (3) John Purdue, Bill Somerville (2), Jock Williamson, Neil Anderson, Garth Tattersfield and Colin Dow (1)
Marist - Killeen, Dave Madden, Peter McNamara (2)

Pitching; Roger Keith 27 batters, 4 strikeouts, 1 walk, 5 hits
Paul Hogan 8 batters, 1 walk, 5 hits,
Dave Madden, 22 batters, 3 strikeouts, 1 walk, 5 hits

Note:  Sorry guys but the notes were terrible to read, and not being into softball was hard to get down on to yacck - let me know if it is not right.
