Riverton earnt the right to play in the DB Rugby Club championship and met Invercargill in one of the finals in 1976.   Invercargill with a forward powerhouse of flanker, Trevor Keelty, No 6 Colin Millar, and the rest of the pack; J. Steentjes, G. Smith, B. Lindsay, W. Templer and Ian Greig won too much ball, starving Riverton from getting opportunities to score.
The acme of the game was when Roger Ramsay scored in the corner for Invercargill.  McLellan scored two tries for Invercargill and P. Hildyard converted two of the tries and G. Smith kicked a penalty goal.
For Riverton A. Frew had a great game and scored all their points.  He was safe with ball in hand and tried to get his team going but they had now answer.

You have Trevor Keelty here playing at flanker but that is not the case as in the newspaper report in 1976 Evan McLellan was on one wing and scored two tries and it says Trevor Keelty saw little of play on the other wing.
Phillip Stevenson was first five eight replacing Gary Muir and had a fine game.
Yacck is right about a fine try by Roger Ramsay who scored in the corner.
Riverton's full back, Allan Frew had a grand game.
I know a lot of the newspaper articles are wrong regarding names and positions etc.......
