Welcome to Yacck - we hope you have great pleasure in reading the stories from the past and would love you to make positive comments for everyone to enjoy. The Yacck Team.
Southland were outplayed by Otago in the 1987 annual competition, but Southland did have some good players that provided entertaining games. Although the womens team only went down 17 games to 14, they would have been pleased with the way they fought hard. Ngiare Garret won all her six matches.
In the men's section, David Pyper, Chris Sparrow and Barry Kendall (Otago) were far too strong for the Southland trio of Ron Garrett, Murray Wells and Chris Carlaw.
In the other grades Daryl Holden went down narrowly to Barry Ellis in one match and George Hook gave Brendon Sparrow a fright taking him 19-21 in the third.
The veteran's men kept Southland's hopes alive with a 10-2 victory.
Rex Perkins and Bruce Lowe won all their matches. Clive Adamson won two singles.
The Southland Boys U19 were also victorious with a win of 7-5.
Greg Falconer and Craig Henderson had two wins each with Richard Cavanagh scoring one win.
Southland women's U 15 team took on the Otago U19 team and won 16-15.
Valerie Henderson and Debbie Garrett had two wins.
In the boy's U19 the only player to win a game was Paul Mullin.
Other players to compete were:
Martin Peters, Nathan Anglem, Craig Wood, Adrien McCloy, Lloyd Hook, Wayne McEwan, Trudy Watson, Vicki Garrett, Paul Maloney, Kerry Goodall, Ryan Perkins.
