Welcome to Yacck - we hope you have great pleasure in reading the stories from the past and would love you to make positive comments for everyone to enjoy. The Yacck Team.
I see there was a story on the repertory society called "The Tree". A Mrs Stella Jones, of Auckland who wrote the show got in second place in the Southland Centennial playwriting competition. Mrs Jones said she was thrilled with the play and the performance of the actors. She was particularly impressed with the final scene.
"The Tree" actually had a world premier in Bristol, England and Stella was over there to see it. She said the people in England were very good to her and they sent her reviews and programmes.
Stella said she loves to write about the everyday life of New Zealanders and began writing 15 years ago when she was a primary school teacher.
She said she uses the sunroom in her home to write and if she gets writer's block she will go for a walk which the fresh air and seeing other people inspires her.
She writes a rough copy to start with and will often set it aside for one or two months and come back to it. She credited the Southland Centennial playwriting competition as she said it give writers something to write for.
