Marist wins round one of Soccer competition in 1978....

The Donald Gray Memorial Cup looked like being one of the best competitive wise in 1978.   With round one of the competition over Marist is the surprise package and drew their first game of the season against Old Boys, since then they have won their last six games and hold a 3 point lead on the ladder board.

Kevin Mason along with Steven Andrews and Jamie Andrews have one of the best attacking trio in the competition.  Tony De Ruyter, Phil Rhodes, Denis Prendergast, Mike Swain, Paul Shepherd, Mal Kilkelly, Gerald Wyering, Gerrard Smith, Greg Wye and captain Mike Keen have ensured they can look at winning this competition.
Marist cannot afford to let the foot of the throat and need to keep up the good playing as there is still two rounds to be played.  
The Old Boy's club have entered a second team in division II which will eliminate the bye in this grade.
Lindsay Barnett the Queens Park young promising player broke his leg last weekend against Roslyn, he had been selected for the Southland U 18 team squad.
