Malcolm Ferguson transferred to Invercargill in 1972 and playing for Queens Park soccer........

Invercargill City who was two points clear in the Southern League division one competition was determined to stay there.  Captain, Peter De Ruyter who was replaced by Keith Hunter in their game against Timaru City the previous week.

In May 1972, it was Invercargill City meeting the much improved Roslyn Wakari side which is coached by fromer Queens Park player, Bill Fleming.
Queens Park was playing Dunedin City and was strengthened by the return of Malcolm Ferguson a New Zealand representative. Ferguson has been transferred to Invercargill.  A former crack striker, Ferguson played the 1972 season in a defensive role.
It was as expected Invercargill City that beat Roslyn Wakari 3-0, but the score did not reflect the game and with an ounce of luck Roslyn could have had a couple of goals. 
Dave White, City keeper had a cruisy day at the office and was only called on twice to show his skills.
Lance Howley was daring and had the better of Roslyn's key player B. Patterson.
Bob Piercy was good value and Peter Dick was the master in the middle.
Peter Hobell and Noel Bennett covered and tackled effectively and linked well with Hec McKinnell.
Colin Anderson, Wayne Thomsen and Bobby Mexted turned in their best games of the season.
G. Broad for Roslyn made a lot of interceptions and his captain, Tom Smillie played himself to a standstill.
