United beat Rata 37-18 in the Southland netball competition in 1976.
The game was fast and furious with United having a lot less errors than Rata.

United had not lost  a game in the 1976 season, with Rata goal keeper, Kate Campbell having a good game and managed to win most of the rebounds when United, which was not often,  miss a goal.
Shirley Hale and Kerry Watt both worked hard around the court and were well supported by Kaye McPhedran and Suzanne Hall.

Carolyn Shepherd shows her great skills at centre for Makarewa against St Marys netball in 1976......

Makarewa shoots had an off day, which made the score look worse than the game.   St Mary's won 30-18 and both teams played a good standard of netball, but if was the defence line of Mary Brown, Elizabeth Agnew and Frances Craig who made it hard for the Makarewa attacks.
For Makarewa, Carolyn Shepherd at centre and Louise Smith at wing attack worked well together and got the ball to Elizabeth Cappie, but they did not capatilise by getting the goal.
Defences for Makarewa, Glenys Todd and Barbara Jenkins both worked hard and got some great intercepts.
In the shooting circle for St Marys, Marie Checketts and Alison Newton found the net more often than not. The shoots linked well with centre, Derina Fowler.

Anne McDonald shooting at a high success rate for Brigadiers A against Brigadiers B netball 1976......

PictureLynley Huntley, Brigadiers A, reaches for the ball
As thought Brigadiers A beat Brigadiers B but not without a fight.  B team played a short game and ensured their passes stuck.  The problem was when they got to the goal circle and it was left to Denise Cumming to do all the shooting.   Joy Pankhurst reverted back to centre in the second half which worked better for the team. She was replaced by Diane Mathews who also could not find the net, but her court work made up for this.
Brigadiers A, Leslie Hayes, played goal keeper in the first half and made it hard for her opponents.  Pam Egan went back there in the second half and managed some great intercepts.
Sue Reeves had her usual good game at centre, and with June Caird at goal defence and Lynley Huntly at wing attack, the pace was too fast for the B team to defend.
Goal attack, Pixie Raurimu showed her silky skills and Anne McDonald at goal shoot had a good percentage of netting the ball.
