Southland Boys High School played St Andrews College from Christchurch in Invercargill in 1972. St Andrews lost its first three wickets for just 24 with accurate bowling from Ewan Soper and Mark Pittaway of Southland Boys High School.
John Flaus who did not bowl out his overs took two valuable wickets. It was only Dougald Matheson who troubled the batsmen with his good line.
In the batting, Ian Singleton came out and hit assertively but tried to swing a short delivery off his stumps and skewed the ball into the hands of Paul Johnston.
Ross Murdoch lost his wicket to a great catch by wicketkeeper, John McLay.
All hope was resting on John Flaus and he looked like he was going to deliver but was caught by Mike Johnston.
Neil McArthur, who was not out, had a sound innings at 22.
The big hitting Dave Hay of St Andrews College was the one that gave his side the first innings lead with a total of 63 runs.
