Welcome to Yacck - we hope you have great pleasure in reading the stories from the past and would love you to make positive comments for everyone to enjoy. The Yacck Team.
The Invercargill Amateur Cycling Club held a 30 mile road race from Tay Street to Mable Bush in 1946. The winner was H. Tuffrey who had made only his second start that season.
The roads were heavy and the riders were buffed by a north easterly wind on their outward journey.
Tuffrey was assisted by A. Padget who had both maintained their handicap off 10 minutes and after dropping their co-riders were first to reach the turn.
A. McLelland and E. Ward were next in followed 30 sec later by A. Howie and F. Aim.
The two back markers, R. O'Connor and W. Matheson had both gained two minutes at that stage and there was little change in the order for the ride home.
Six of the club riders were racing in Dunedin and two riders took a wrong turn, R. Hughes and E. Mitchell, which left the field a bit slim.
A junior race for boys under 17 to Mill Road and returned attracted a lot of interest with results; G. McIndoe 1, M. McKinnon 2, M. Sibbald 3. in a timeof 14.12.
