Four sisters were included in the Southland hockey team. They were Susan Dillon, Raewyn Dillon, Lesley Carter and Gail Ward. Raewyn was the only sister that had not played in a previous tournament. The team was announced by the selectors; Mrs Anne Greive, Miss Rachel Peek and Murray Connor.
Their mother, Mrs K. Dillon was team chaperone and the manager was Esther Blackie.
The team that went to the national tournament in Dunedin was: Annette Harris, Captain, (Collegiate), Louie Todd (United), Margaret McCauley (Collegiate), Sue Milligan (United, Vice Captain), Ruth Soper (United), Lesley Carter (United), Lynley Ball (Southland Girls High School), Betty Henry (Bluff), Barbara Lee (United), Marilyn Brown (United), Raewyn Dillon (Collegiate), Angela MacAskill (United), Gail Ward (Collegiate), Lynley Irwin (United), Susan Dillon (Southland Girls High School).
