It is 1963 and Limehills remained the only unbeaten team in the Hamilton Shield series in the Central Southland competition when it beat Drummond at Limehills on Saturday.

For Limehills, B. Paterson and B. Pierce scored tries and Paterson kicked a penalty goal.  Drummond scorers were B. Laughton and G. Affleck tries with Laughton converting his own try.
Limehills were definitely the better looking team and with the amount of attacking they did, they would have been annoyed they did not have more points on the board.
J. Gatley, the Limehill's hooker was exceptional and took five tightheads from the more experienced Drummond hooker, K. Horner.
B. Hamilton played his usual dashing game and Brent Pierce, the promoted breakaway, from the junior ranks gave an outstanding display.
N. Hazlett along with Paterson gave good solid displays for Limehills.
Drummond's tall men, J. Hazlett and P. Grant dominated the lineouts and half back F. Williams played one of his best games to date.

J. O'Connor - fullback for Central Star - key to win over Winton in 1963.....

Winton suffered its first loss of the season when it was beaten 8-5 by Central Star.
Central Star sure would have been celebrating as it was their first win against Winton for a very long time.  They had plenty more opportunity to score more points but their kicking was not on that day.
Star's game was full of enthusiasm and confidence and they looked dangerous on attack, with their defence being sound.
Winton came out firing in the second half and started attacking at a furious rate of knots, they took the lead in the early stages of the second half with a converted try.
J. O'Connor the full back for Star was easily the best back on the field, he made some fine strong runs, cutting through the defence.
J. Paterson was a key feature in the game and was well supported by A. Davidson.
Winton's forwards played hard rugby with M. Hogan, P. Scharfe, and J. Pullar in the thick of it.  In the backs, A. Price, J. Forde and L. Cockroft played well.
Central Star:  J. Paterson (2) (1Con)
Winton:  L. Cockroft (1) R. Hodges (1Con)
