A resuffled Panthers team took the field after their lose to Blue Sox the week before in 1970.  In a Calder Mackay challenge they beat Marist 5-4 which was their second loss of the season, both to Panthers.
The last game Panthers had the week before against Blue Sox saw them thrashed 12-1 in five innings and Collegiate had too many guns for Demons in winning 9-0.
After ten games for the season, Marist now leads Blue Sox and Panthers by four points.  But Panthers have played one more game than anyone else.
B. Bridgeman out Marist one up in the first innings but two errors a two bagger by Barry Patton and another error let Panthers in three times in the second innings.
Panthers loaded the bases through errors in the third and David Welsh bunted Frank Goodall to make the score Panthers 4 Marist 1.
Marist fought back to level the score at their third turn at bat on hits by J. Cullen, J. Walker, Bridgeman, N. Killen and P. Killen.   Marist had a chance to take the lead but Walker was tagged at the plate when trying to take an extra base on a hit.
Brillant catches by Ian Ellis and Peter Thwaites kept Marist from scoring when they were threatening in the fifth innings, and Panthers went on to score the deciding run in the sixth.  R. Roff made first on an error and rounded the bases on passed balls and a hit by Goodall.
Although Marist took nine hits to Panthers five they lost because they made eight errors to three.  H. Toromata, pitched five strikeouts and no walks.
Barry Patton hit twice for Panthers and N. Killen (3) and Bridgeman (2) did the best for Marist.
Bluesox needed only 4 turns at bat to run up 12 runs and have the game called because they were more than 10 ahead.  Pitcher, D. Horn was in fine form and conceded only 1 hit - a home run to Ellis in the first innings.
Horn struck fine form with the bat as well, following his hit to start the fourth innings and smashed a three bagger later which bought in three runs.
Although fielding better than it had in previous games, Demons pitching could not contain the strong batting from Collegiate.  The former won in a full seven innings game 9-0.
Demons had no answer to the controlled pitching of G. Tattersfield and G. Robertson was the only batter to hit away safely.
Collegiate took seven hits from John Pankhurst and two more from W. Boyer in the last three innings.  A. Pennicott (3), John Purdue and Gary Pankhurst two each batted best for Collegiate.
