Southland netball team had great depth in 1988...

Southland were looking for a win over Otago in 1988 in the annual Netball clash.  The last time they had won was 1982 when Mary Thomson netted a goal right on full time for her team, Southland to win by one goal.
The experience from the 1987 team of Moira Gerken, Fiona Ward, Lynne McKenzie, Vivienne Robinson, Deirdre Heenan, Sharalyn Roden, Teresa Panagiotidis and Janice McLelland.  

Southland netball were also credited with some great referees who were going to be travelling to Dunedin for the inter-provincial tournament in; Louise Smith, Marie Jenkins, Joy McKenzie and Jenny Barr.
