Town seniors comfortably beat Country 46-24 in Invercargill 1983. The junior teams, the Under 16 Town won 46-23 and the Under 18's won 39-24. Country managed to win the U20 grade 28-20.
The Country seniors got off to a good start in a game which played to international rules, over 4
15 minute quarters instead of the 2 20 minute halves.
Country gave Town a fright in the first quarter, when score was 9-9. They played with flair and a sense of purpose getting the ball to the edge of the goal circle effortlessly.
Country Goal Shoot, Adele Hastie shot well and gathered the rebound if a shot was missed.
Town settled down later in the second quarter, with wing attack, Debbie Angus intercepting well and moving the ball through the court well.
Town goalkeeper, Linda de Ruyter robbed town of a lot of ball, but Hastie and goal attack, Janice McKerchar kept working hard.
