It was 1964 and Albion retained its position two flag points behind Mataura, in the Eastern Southland Rugby competition when it beat Edendale by 21-3.
In the first half Edendale seemed the better team, but in the second Albion proved its superiority.  Too much touch-kicking by both the inside backs of both teams made the game uninteresting.
The ball was very greasy and too hard to get out the back-line.
W. Townsend (Albion) took plenty of clean balls in the lineout E. Cooney (Edendale) and K. Gerken (Albion) stood out in the forwards and while A. Mowat (Albion) and J. Williamson (Edendale) showed surprising ability at handling the ball on attack.
Edendale first points came when N. Gibson kicked a 30-yard penalty goal.  Mowat opened Albion's scoring after 32 minutes of alternating play, when he cut through the Edendale defence to run about 40 yards and score a spectacular try, 10 yards in from touch.  A Coleman converted to make the score 5-3.  Near the end of the half, Coleman kicked a 35 years penalty goal.
With only 7 minutes on the clock in the second half, Coleman sliced through opposition to score a try by the posts He had little trouble converting.
B. Lord scored next for Albion when he crossed in the corner after M. O'Connor made the break.  G. Townsend score the final try for Albion, when he scored by the posts.  Coleman again converted.

gy game.
The two teams were evenly matched during the first 20 minutes with SD being first to score.
A penalty shot hit the posts and rebounded which was taken by Graeme McKenzie , the kicker who sent his brother, Ian McKenzie over for a good try in the corner, G. McKenzie converted.
Halfway through the second half SD forwards gave half-back W. Crosswell a quick ball from a ruck and a run by first five eight, Allan Cook sent Ian McKenzie in for his second try.
