Welcome to Yacck - we hope you have great pleasure in reading the stories from the past and would love you to make positive comments for everyone to enjoy. The Yacck Team.
A life membership was given to Miss Annie Tippett for her work and dedication to the Central Netball Sub-Association during their centennial celebrations in 1976.
Miss Tippett was serving in her 27th year as secretary of the association and Mrs G. T. McFarlane said that if anything needed done all they had to yell was "Where is Annie" and she would appear. She was totally devoted to Central Netball and it would not be the success it is today without her.
Her love for netball started out as secretary for the Limehills club as well as secretary for Central. She served as delegate to Southland netball since 1950 and was selector and coach of the Central team from 1961 to 1965. She also served in many positions for Southland Country Netball.
Mrs Ruby Donald, patron of the Central Netball Association presented Annie Tippett with the award and it was concluded by Mrs Doreen Hes of Southland Netball that it was indeed an award fully deserved. Without these people who give many hours of voluntary service netball would not be the game it is today.
Mrs Elaine Familton from the Central Netball Umpires association also presented Annie Tippett with a similar badge and certificate.
Mrs K. F Cocker, mayoress of Winton also spoke and a film of the 1932 of the New Zealand netball championships, was screened and well received by the 350 present at the function. A commentary was given by Miss Esme Shepherd, who was a member of the Southland team at the time.
