William Charles Anderton to train at Takanini in 1953......

Former Invercargill trainer, W. C. Anderton moved his stables to Takanini in 1953.  He is to take over a training establishment for Messrs J and J. S. Price.  Anderton will take the promising three year old fillies, Angus and Set Fair who were purchased by his employers at the 1952 yearling sales.

By Red Mars from the Robin Goodfellow mare Akitio, Aranga was placed in three of her races last season.  The Whistling Wind or Neptune filly, Set Fair is a daughter of Bulandshar mare, Indian Princess, winner of the A.R.C. Great Norther Derby.
Also the Avondale Hopeful Stakes.  
Set Fair was given two races as a two year old and in her only start this season flashed on for third in the Otago Hunt Club Trial Stakes.  They will be joined at Takanini by another three year old also purchased at the sale.
Anderton had a good measure of success as a jockey on the flat and on one occassion scored three wins in four races at Riverton on the same day.  In 1938 he took over the position as private trainer to the Price Brothers who were then in business in Invercargill and he has trained many winners for them.
He prepared Wild Career for his second success in the Riverton Cup and also won this event with Secret Flight and Fair Trial.
Other winners trained by him were Full Play, Wild Cry, High Quest, Full Tone and Entreatful.
