Allan Valli all class in Waikiwi's win over Collegiate in 1978...

Waikiwi were too good for Collegiate in the 1978 second division competition in Invercargill.  Allan Valli was the man of the moment in the win after scoring two tries in his team's win 13-7.
In a otherwise dull game, Allan Valli two tries were scored at critical moments in the game.  With a slight breeze behind it Collegiate had the upper hand but even so still found itself 2 points down at half time with run against play when Valli scored his first try.

After half time Collegiate came back and with a Bill Wilson penalty must have been sniffing a win, but were penalised to give Waikiwi's Stu Ogilvy a successful penalty kick.  Minutes later Valli ran round two defenders to score in the corner and seal their fate.  In the forwards Waikiwi seemed to have the advantage and both sets of backs were often caught behind the advantage line.  This game was no different from other encounters between these two teams, a tight battle which could go either way.  
Kevin Stevens scored the only try for Collegiate.
