Welcome to Yacck - we hope you have great pleasure in reading the stories from the past and would love you to make positive comments for everyone to enjoy. The Yacck Team.
Trevor Flannery had to wade through mud, playing for Collegiate A against Phoenix in the Invercargill men's hockey competition in 1983. Flannery got past four defenders to score. That was where the score remained as both teams found the condition challenging with players slipping and sliding all over the place.
Phoenix played really well but they just could not find the net with Murray Paterson and Peter Ophius playing their usual agressive game.
It took a while for both teams to settle to the conditions and once they realised they had to play short hockey - it paid dividends for them.
The other senior game between Tuis and and Civil Service saw the former win 2-0.
It was the same scenario again with players being effective in the muddy conditions.
The two goals were scored by Russell Molloy and Grant Butler.
