Invercargill Solicitor and Barrister, Mr T. R. Pryde, became the first World War II verteran to receive the R.S.A. gold star badge and certificate of merit. The ceremony was held in the R.S.A. Memorial Hall with appro 200 in attendant.
Mr Pryde received the badge from Mr W.H. Reid, Otago and Southland District, vice-president. The president of the Invercargill R.S.A Mr J.T. Blampied and sub-association representatives spoke highly of Mr Pryde and his work.
Mr Pryde became the 5th Southlander to wear the gold star. At the ceremony was Mr Walter Ayson, of Otautau, who has been similarly honoured. The other three are; Mr John Tait, and Mr Hugh Ritchie of Invercargill., and Mr Robert Murray of Ohai.
Mr Pryde has held nearly every position possible in the R.S.A. and also many at national level.
He was approving of the award unanimously on the fact that Mr Pryde had made a huge contribution as a returned serviceman of World War II.
