Thistle has three point lead in the Charity Cup soccer tournament in Invercargill in 1957.....

It is 1957 and Thistle had a three point lead in the Charity Cup soccer tournament.
They managed this with a win over Old Boys 2-1. The two second placed teams, Waihopai and Queens Park did not do themselves any favours by drawing.

K.Baker for Old Boys scored first when he got a brillant pass from Herring on the wing.  
After half time Thistle went immediately on to attack and it was only the good defence from the Old Boy's keeper that P. Van Lier kept Neville Patterson from scoring.
Thistle equalized when C. Steele netted.   Thistle's winning goal came from a long shot from G. Bennie.
Queens Park v Waihopai
L. Harrison showed good form when he netted two goals for in the first 10 minutes for Queens Park.  
In reply J. Anderson broke through the defence to score a good goal before the interval.
E. Sinclair put Waihopai into a 3-2 lead when he scored two goals in less than three minutes.
E. Greenlees took advantage of a penalty to score the equalizing goal for Waihopai.
