Tennis Win to Kew Club in 1959

With Keith Muir and Lynne Wilson winning both their respective titles, the Kew Tennis Club moved closer to winning the Rothmans national inter-club competition by beating Dunedin's club, Mornington-Roslyn.

The 3-2 win in a five match series was the tonic that Southland tennis needed.  The Rothman's series is a new innovation for tennis and is played in two divisions within the country.  Kew is to meet the winner of the North Otago/South Canterbury district match which would be played in Dunedin.
Each clash involved men and womens singles and mens and womens doubles and one mixed double game.  No player is allowed to play in more than two games as this ensures that the top man and woman in each team cannot play in all of the singles, doubles and mixed doubles. For example it was to Kew club's advantage when they play Mornington/Roslyn as their top player Denis Radford played in the men's doubles and mixed doubles and therefore he could not play in the singles.
The first match went to Lynn Wilson, who is playing excellent tennis this season, by beating A. Galbraith 6-0 and 6-2
