Some more senior rugby games in 1983 saw Bluff beat Mataura 26-0 with Bluff scoring three tries to Terry Dixon and wingers, Steven Geary and Nicki Whaanga.
In the second half Rangi Puki and Geary added another two tries.
Chris Hini, half back was his usual reliable self and forward Apana Taua and and young flanker, Kevin Condon were impressive.
Although his team was well beaten, Mataura's half back George Henderson was exceptional.

Combination of Morris Gilbertson and Richard Hoskin for Old Boys gives them a good win against Star in 1983...

Picture
Old Boys managed to beat Star 10-0 in 1983 with Morris Gilbertson at half back and Richard Hoskin at first five eight supporting each other well and giving their back line clean ball.
Donald Ward, half back for Star worked hard to initiate something and was just about successful when he intercepted a pass along the Old Boy's line, but was pulled up just before the line.
The score at half time was nil all and when the teams began the second half it was Shaun Flynn for Star that led his team on many bursts up field.
It was not until the 60th minute of the game that Steve Walker scored the first try.  His forward pack lost a tighthead but managed to push the Star pack over the line to score.
Old Boy's scored again later when Gilberston put Mark Hill over a try in the corner.
Old Boys:  Steve Walker, Mark Hill (1) Steve Black (1 con)
Referee:  Arthur Gormack.

Les Roberts in fine form for Albion in defeating Tokanui in 1983...

Tokanui found themselves on the losing end for the first time in 1983 when they went down to Albion 24-14.  It was unusual that both teams used their backs as much as they did, considering they are known for their forward power.
Even though Tokanui had the territory advantage in the first half it was Albion that managed to notch up the points.  It was from a scrum that the first points came with Michael Hill disengaging from a scrum and off loaded to half back Les Roberts on the blind side.  He charged over for the try. The second try came with Jimmy Cormack, winger, showed speed to get past his opposite and fed Craig Pullar who came from the other wing to score. Albion led 8-0 at half time.
In the second half first five eight for Albion, Kevin Gentle, created a gap and passed to prop, Roger Robinson, who took a good pass and barged over for a try.
John Archer not scared to try something new threw a well timed dummy and scored a great solo try.
Tokanui was gagging for some points and it was Gus Dermody that was in close counter with his winger, Philip Golden that got the inside pass and fouled his opposite for a good try.
Lex Chisholm from a line out scooped a ball up that was going nowhere to score. Albion 16-8.
It was Roberts for Albion that closed the game with a perfect off load to Cox who drew in the defence then kicked ahead which was botched by Tokanui on their line and all Roberts had to do was press the ball down.
Cormack added another try to give Albion's final score. Roberts and Gentle would have been more than happy with their games.
Tokanui still had more points to add and it was Golden that performed another slick move with Gus Dermody successful with the conversion right on the touch line.
Prop, Rata Smith, flanker, Lance Graham and No. 8 Murray Pickett were right in the thick of it.
Albion:  Les Roberts (2), Craig Pullar, Jimmy Cormack, Roger Robinson, John Archer (1)
Tokanui:  Lex Chisholm, Phillip Golden (1) Fergus Dermody (1) (1Con)
Referee Mr C. Hogue.
