In the mens softball competition in Invercargill in 1970 Demons came close to beating Marist.  At the top of the third, Tony Norrie, on an error, and Russell Frisbie, a walk both made base.  However both were put out on force plays at third after snappy Marist fielding.  Barry Bridgeman made the score 5-0 after clouting a three bagger and scoring on Keehan's errored hit.
Alan McDonald bought Keehan in from third on fielder's choice, and scored the final run of the game in the sixth innings on a hit to right field by replacement Paul Keehan.

WOMEN
Blue Sox went down to Marist with the first two batters, Ann Rainbow and Glenys Seymour both taking hits and scoring.  However, Marist soon took control with ten runs in the second innings and after receiving five walks and good hitting by Mary Egan, Gaynor Bridgeman, Bridget Cullen and Judith Buchanan.
Anne Rainbow hit hard for a home run in the third innings but the game finished in the fifth with Marist 20 and Blue Sox 7.
Collegiate gave a good display of fielding to limit Port to just one run.  Collegiate led 9-1 when rain forced the game to be abandoned at the bottom of the sixth. Pitcher Marilyn Graham contained Port to three hits, while her team mates took nine, with Maree Peters taking a home run.
