Maurice Skinner, Bryce Buchanan and Colin Baynes are the top trainers and Henry Skinner and Robin Swain are the top drivers during the 1982 Southland light harness meeting.
It is hard to believe that in the 201 penalty bearing trotting races featured this season ended in a tie between Buchanan and Baynes, with both getting 14 wins.
Maurice Skinner, the ever talented Hedgehope horseman with his team winning 12 races on the Southland circuit.  Maurice is the leading trainer on the national premiership with 19 wins, having a narrow lead over Baynes (18) and Buchanan (17).
Colin Baynes who was the leading amateur trainer in the country was unable to head of Maruice Skinner even though he had a team campaigning in the North Island in recent weeks.  His winners included Beearcat (4) Dab Chick (3) Rocking Berry, High Finance and Sherpa (2) Kamahi (1).
Buchanan had the following winners in Sir Brett (4) Knowing Allan, Classic Pride (2) and Irish Rover, Miradios, Jolly Jack, Kingi, Sunflower and Berry (1).
