The Southland and Southland Country representative basketball teams left for Greymouth in 1963 to attend the National Tournament.

It was a rare day in that six sisters, were all representing Southland that weekend.
Monica Fahey, Ceclia Fahey and Eileen Fahey were all playing in the A team.
Maureen was a member of the second grade team.
The two younger sisters, twins - Marie Fahey and Dorothy Fahey were playing in the primary school tournament at Gore.
Monica had strained a knee in a game against Otago the previous week.
Dunedin spectators were in awe of the two forwards,  Monica and Eileen who played a fast paced game.
When Monica was injured and was replaced by Celia the crowd applauded the sisters and the way they played their basketball.
