Seward Downs Beats Tokanui 1955

Seaward Downs beat Tokanui 12-0 in the Southland Rugby sub-union.

Watched by a large crowd and in excellent conditions Seaward Downs defeated Tokanui in a spectacular game of rugby which was appreciated by the crowd.  Although it was a comfortable win Tokanui were probably unlucky in that play was very even in the first half with both teams not giving an inch.  After 35 minutes from a maul in their own 25 G Wylie scored an excellent try be beating 3 men and scored in the corner which made the score 3-0 to Seaward Downs.
A penalty try was awarded soon after when the referee maintain Tokanui was slowing the ball down and a little later McKenzie landed a penalty goal.  A Smith scored the final try in the closing stages of the game. Tokanui made a late bid to try and put some points on the board when Earwaker  kicked the ball over the full-backs head but the opposition got their first in a race for the bal.  G Wylie and O. McCall both played well for Seaward Downs
