Riverton rugby a force to be reckoned with in 1956....

Riverton beaten by Ohai 6-5.

Ohai was lucky to beat Riverton 6-5 in a bright Rugby game on the Ohai Domain on Saturday.  All games between the two teams this year have been closely contested
Ohai's points came from two penalty goals in the first half.  It was all that it looked like scoring.
Riverton's defence was sound and its forwards were playing the game of their lives.
Later in the second half G Bailey scored a good try for Riverton.  When this free-moving No. 8 gets the ball he always looks dangerous.  S. Wills converted.
At this stage Riverton was going much the better of the two teams but could not break the strong defence.
In a junior game played at Riverton, Orepuki beat Riverton by 22-13.

Riverton, Nightcaps draw 9-9

A good crowd saw the Riverton senior team draw with Nightcaps 9-9 at the Riverton Domain on Saturday.  The weather and the heavy gound were against back movements with the game being mainly contained int eh forwards.  The feature was the lively short passing by the Riverton forwards and the excellent hooking of A. Cleaver.
