Ray Hibbs of Bluff along with three other oyster openers, Keith Dawson, Keith Lovett and Martin Nepia tried to get their record of opening oysters in the Guiness Book of Records in 1986.
Ray can open 100 oysters in a time of 3.1841.
The rules regarding the attempt was clear, with rules such as oysters had to be completely shucked from the shell and put into some sort of container.
Unfortunately the team did not beat the existing record of American W. Heath, but the Southlanders claimed that American oysters are easier to open so maybe this will be the last attempt as there is definitely different techniques with different oysters.
