It was Rangi Puki's boot from Bluff that beat Marist 15-9 in 1982.  In a otherwise scrappy game the Bluff tight put the pressure on right from the first whistle.
Willy Calder had a good game at full back, but Puki was completely out of position at first and second five eight and kicked away any good ball won by the forwards.
In the scrums, Marist were strong and replacement hooker, Mark Scully won two tightheads over his opposite.
Bluff, when it did get the ball through the backline tried to run it but more often than not could not get through the tight defence from Paddy McGrath.
Forwards to impress for Bluff was the young flanker, Mark Perkins and Doug Murcott who played solidly and jumped well in the line outs.
A good run down the touchline by Stephen Gearry brought play close to the Marist's line and Chris Hiini ran round the side of the maul and scored.
Marist came back in the second 40 with some good work by John Mulvey and some speedy runs down the wing by Paul Burrows.
Tony Neilson replaced the injured S. Kereru and the game was lifted and the port returedd with vengeance.
The last 10 saw Marist hold out Bluff to stop any further points being scored.
Bluff:  Chris Hiini, (1), Rangi Puki (3Pg) (1Con)
Marist:  John Mulvey (1), Keith Gaines (1DG) John McGrath (1 Con)

Woodlands lose only their second game of season in loss to Tokanui 9-7 rugby 1982......

Woodlands did not go down without a fight and was over the line a number of times before it was hauled back for infringements.  Its failure to win points when on attack was its undoing.
Tokanui were smart enough to keep the ball in the forwards where Stuart Dermody and Fergus Dermody .  When they did send the ball to half back Dave Wray and first five eight, Wayne Stronach they were safe.
Paul Cosgrove was good for Woodlands in the tight and lock, Lindsay Crooks supported him well, with half back Stuart Cook linking up well.
Tokanui:  Wayne Stronach (1) Fergus Dermody (1PG) (1Con)
Woodlands:  Terry Bellew (1) Brent McKenzie (1PG)
