Old Boys Squash women's squash team finally won a game in the 1982 season when it beat Invercargill II in the interclub competition. Shirley Thomson beat Sandy Johnstone, 6-9,9-0,10-8,8-10,9-4 in a thrilling game that could have gone either way.  It really was only Shirley's well timed dropped shots that was the difference in an exciting game.
Lyn Wilson beat Shirley McKenzie in a three setter, 9-5,10-8.9-4.  It was Lyn Wilson (Old Boys) play in the air that was the deciding factor.
Jean McLean (Invercargill) lost to Pat Holmes (Old Boys) 9-3,9-5,2-9,6-9,4-9.  This was also another thriller of a game as Jean McLean won the first two sets and must have thought she to only get on court to win the third but Pat had another story and it was a great comeback to go on and win.
Carmen  Orlowski, a junior showed how much she has improved by beating Jenny Smith (Invercargill), 9-5,9-4,9-3.  It must be said that Carmen has benefitted from the recent hard games.
It was all down to the No. 5 in the team Gail Taitoko for Invercargill to ensure they did not go out without one win and she did so by beating Marge Barnett 9-3,9-6,0-9.4-9,9-3 in another thrilling match.
MATAURA secured a win over Gore II which puts it in second place in the competition.  Robyn Meikle was playing No. 1  for Mataura and just about caused an upset when she went down to Margaret Meechang, who is in a higher grade, to five sets. It was only Meechang's experience and fitness that saw her through.  Dot Chamberlain (Mataura) lost to Colleen Lavender, 2-9,3-9,1-9. Lois Marshall knew that the pressure was on her to get her team through and played text book squash by moving the ball round the court from the tee, to beat Judy Miller in a close and thrilling match, 10-9,2-9,10-9,9-6.
Pam Henry (Mataura) beat Diane Townsend 9-4,9-1,3-9,10-8 and Libby McLennan competed the win for Mataura by beating Alwyn Perry 9-6,9-4,8-10,9-5.
