In a tight game in 1976 Riverton beat Central Pirates 8-3 in miserable conditions at Riverton.  With the conditions play was played in the forwards . Riverton captain Murray Heath again proved a thorn in Central Pirates side as he kept the ball in front of his pack.
It was not that they didnt get plenty of ball but it was more of lost opportunities for Central Pirates, and the fact that they could not exploit the Riverton's defence..
Logan Alderson, Norman Cleaver, Wayne Soper, Allan Frew, Stephen Ashworth and Gordon Lewis all had good games for Riverton
Wally Nelson was a hard working Central Pirates forward with his scrummaging being dominant.
Michael Harris
at first five eight impressed and David Colhoun who was moved to the wing later in the game turned in a good display.
Jim Phair played in a unfamiliar full-back position but showed his natural ability with sure handling and kicking.
Riverton:  Murray Heath and F. Christie (1)
Pirates:  T. McKenzie (1PG)

Stephen Saunders and Bevan Cunningham - two juniors play well for Limehills

Limehills beat Ohai-Nightcaps on a wet ground in gloomy conditions in Ohai in 1976.  Both teams were under strength and fielded a number of junior players.
Limehills played better as a team but the score did not really reflect the game at 13-3.
Promoted juniors Stephen Saunders and Bevan Cunningham were outstanding in winning ball.
Bruce Winter shone at half-back and especially with his clearing kicks.  His combination with first five eight Ross Mangles was the key to the win.
Limehills Trevor Saunders, B. Scully (1) Johns (1PG) (1Con)

Wayne Dallas impresses for Waiau Star with their win over Winton in 1976..

Waiau Star won 7-0 against Winton in 1976  playing in a sea of mud where the players found it difficult to keep their footing.
The Waiau Star forward were the tighter unit with flanker, Wayne Dallas the best of them.
The much lighter pack of Winton were driven back constantly and were well beaten in the backs.
Donald Brown showed some enterprising play and winger, Lyall Gray and half-back Ian Jenkins impressed in the trying conditions.
Winton forwards Chris Thomson, Gavin Keenan, Chris Rowe and full-back Malcolm all contributed to their teams effort.
