Four Valli Brothers in 1976 Nightcaps rugby team.......
Nightcapts fielded four Valli men in the 1976 season. Geoff Valli is the most well-known Valli brother and he was joined by his brothers; Max Valli, a senior from 1975, Richard Valli who played on the opposite wing to Max, and Graham Valli who was a lively forward for the team.
Geoff played full back for Southland but for the club he played at first five eight.
Richard played for the Western juniors in 1975 and was looking for higher honours.
Darryl Pinn a former Western and Ohai winger started at half-back.
Kevin Laidlaw coached the team and he was confident that his men would be first to the loose ball and the backs strong in the tackle area.
Return of Brian Hampton a welcome to Waiau Star rugby team in 1976.....
The return of Brian Hampton from a two year absence was a gain for the Waiau Star team, along with the recruitment of Terry Harris from Wrights Bush were welcome.
Ian Dallis, a former Christchurch player played at centre outside Alun Pennicott at second five eight and then there was Hampton at first five eight.
Murray Harris, No. 8 and was also the captain with locks, Allan Clark and Aaron Templeton.
Jimmy White was in the team as the flanker.Props were David Adams and Al Young, a Southland colts representative.
The coach is Arthur Devery.
