Moore to captain Southland in 117th game against Otago in 1953.....

The 117th game between Otago and Southland was played on Saturday September 5th 1953 in Dunedin.  Otago has the opportunity to win the double this year as they have done six times since 1941.  Of the 23 doubles completed Otago have won 14 to Southland's 9.

Otago won the first game of this round 8-6 in Invercargill but if the breaks had gone Southland's way it could have been a different score as they were the better team on the day.  The Southland and Otago teams had similar success on their North Island tour which points to today's game being an even battle.  Both sets of backs are solid rather than brillant and it should be a typical Otago/Southland forward game.
