Invercargill won convincingly over Mataura 31-6 in 1982.  Invercargill were without some of their key players.  Grant Soper had another great day scoring two tries, kicking two conversions and a penalty goal to give him 15 points which left him on 98 points in the seven games played.

Mataura scored first with first five eight Terry Ashby kicking a penalty goal.
Tony Winsloe then scored for Invercargill, soon after Rodney Burke ran in a good winger's try.
It was John Steentjes who again turned up in the middle of the back line that saw another try by Burke.
Ian Donaldson then scored an easy try.
Centre, Phillip Stevenson made a great break to send Donaldson over again. Tony Hammington, flanker was his usual and was well supported by Winsloe.
Hooker, Mark Crowther, won a string of tightheads.
Half back, Miles Herdman, had a sound game and is always reliable.
First Five eight Peter Soper linked well with Herdman and second five eight, Richard Boynton runs strongly and finds the gaps.
It was a torrid day at the office for Mataura, who were also without key players.  Gary Cowan and Trevor Newton won some good ball, half-back George Henderson had to tidy up some pretty horrid balls.
Warren Peterson was solid for Mataura in the mid field.
Invercargill:  Ian Donaldson (2), Grant Soper (2) (2Con) (1PG), Tony Winsloe, Rodney Burke (1),
Mataura:  Terry Ashby (2PG)
