Maley sisters play for Eastern in 1930 hockey K cup.....

The 1930's ladies hockey K cup was played at Queens Park in Invercargill.
Considering the heavy conditions of the field, due to the wet weather, good fast hockey was played.  

The first game of the A section saw Wellington beat Southland B  3-1.
The teams were:
Southland B - D. Hawke, I. Burrell, I. McEwan, A. Wilson, I. White, L. Humphries, K. Murray, K. Hodgetts, L. Baird, M. Rushton, A. Conley.
Wellington - A. Hefford, A. Smith, K. Miller, E. Delves, H. Webb. B. Charles, K. Hunt, M. Wilkins, D. Foreman,E. Maule, A. Gleeson.

It was a great game between Eastern B and Rotorua with the home team coming out victors 5-4
There was a feeling though that if the grounds had of been drier, Rotorua would have come out on top.
The Teams were:
Eastern B - M. Wright, E. Hall, Marlon Maley, G. Sherbourne, A. Sherbourne, M. Gerken, M. Maley, M. White, J. Patterson, C. Reidy, M. Small.
Rotorua - N. Hato, E. Mitchell, L. Turner, A. Hato, T. Mitchell, G. Davidson, A. Bishop, L. Gray, M. Black, G. Rogers, Mrs R. Boone.

The game of the tournament was between Southland A and Otago with Southland winning 2-1 in an even match.  A large crowd witnessed one of the best game of hockey seen for a long time.  
There was little separating the two teams with Otago unlucky not to at least draw the game.
Southland's forwards were aggressive and the defence was sound.

Otago - H. Johnstone, M. Brown, M. Kingston (Captain), A. Mackie, L. Vidal, M. Blagdon, R. Gosney, S. Vidal, G. Vidal, M. Scott, R. Hunt.
