Mrs Liz Douglas won the Invercargill ladies golf tournament in 1973 by beating Mrs Joy Hawkes 4 and 3 in the final.

Three quarters of the way through the match, it was anyone's game with both golfers hitting the ball sweetly.
The morning saw a big frost on the ground and both women struggled with the hardness of the greens.
It was Joy that started the afternoon session off best with a par on the 19th.
Not to be outdone, Liz squared at the 20th with a brillant long putt to record a birdie.
The game then went to and fro and at the 27th both players were even.
Liz took the 28th and Joy went into the trees. The former grew in confidence and went further ahead at the 30th where Joy three putted.
It all went downhill there for Joy and she knew it was all over at the 33rd which left Liz with a 4 and 3 advantage.
