Coach, Ken Horner was confident that he could field a strong team in 1976. The country teams were finding it harder and harder at the start of each season with committments such as harvesting.
Gains for Drummond were: Bill Cooper who was a winger or halfback has returned to the club.
Ewen Egerton, a prop who has returned from the British Isles.
Trevor Wilson, a winger who had been promoted through the grades, along with Graham Stirling, a lock and David Kennedy a No.8. John Lindsay, better known for his cricketing had gained senior status.
Backs to complete the team were: John Patterson - Central half-back, Kevin Munro - second five eight, Graham Spittle - another central back, Geoff Dykes and Ack McLeod - the two wingers and Terry O'Meara and Brian Smith for full-back position.
Forwards were: John Kincaid - Southland representative, Cliff Cochran - a young loose forward, Bill McIntosh - hooker, Alistair Lindsay and Russell Horner - flankers. Lloyd Lindsay and Graham Cochran - locks and vice-captain - Ken Russell.
