Eastern women's hockey was strong in 1976 and one of the interesting teams to enter was a second Mataura lineup which included mainly married women.  It was a formidable combination with K Cup representatives from previous years in Gay Heaps, Lois Marshall, Pam Thompson, Heather Pay, Judy Bryce and Heather McChlery.
Some players to feature in other teams are:
MATAURA
The other Mataura team which consisted of All Black, Kathy Petre, 1975 K cup captain Dot Walker, with these two woman being the best two full-backs in the country.
Also in this team was former Manioto player Glenys Anderson, former Otago B. representative Barbara Lunn, dashing winger, Annette Tulloch who has also played for New Zealand Juniors and Joan Wairepo an Eastern representative in previous years.
HOKONUI
No 1 Team
They had three teams in A Grade which included; Margaret Meechang, Meralyn Shields, and Marilyn McDougall who were all former K cup players.  Previous Eastern representatives included; Margaret Gill, Marion Greer, Doreen Brayden and Pat Gentle.
The goalie was Elaine Weti, whose experience was worthy of a K cup selection.
No 2 Team
Julie Tattershaw, Ann Watkins, Lorna Henderson, Ann Whangaparita and one of the best goal keepers in the district in Maud Milligan.
No 3 Team
Riversdale player, Rosemary Hogg and goalie Jennifer Styles.
WAIKAKA
This team was looked at as silent prospect with the likes of the captain and former K cup representative Liz Russell, formerly from Hokonui, Lois Byars, Jenny Moorfoot and Lyn Moorfoot, former Waikaia player, Karen Peters and Margaret Lamb. Missing from the 1976 lineup was Judith McDonald.
WYNDHAM
Former Otago and South Otago representative was Marie McKinney, and former Eastern representative, Allison McAllister.
The team gained Jenny Humphries and Judy Gregory, both from Menzies College.   Also a former Balclutha player in Irene Glover joined the team.
WAITEA
Consisted of Dawn Ross in goal, left wing Diane McNeil, a former South Canterbury representative, Sally Robins, Bev Young and Karen Roughan.
