Jim Darragh a stalwart of the Waikiwi Rugby Club and a representative for Southland over a period of 11 years 1910 - 1919.
He was a stylish wing threequarter who scored many tries over his playing years.  He was associated with many fine players over this time and it was as competitive as any time to get representative honours.
Among his clubmates that made the grade were; Watty Broad, E. Edginton, Jimmy Forde, one of Southland's best ever half-backs, W. Forde, Alex Fraser, George Fraser, W. Fraser, Bob Gardiner, Jim McNeece (South Island and New Zealand) Alex McNeece, J. Sloan, E. Wohlers and R. Whyte.
The Waikiwi club was in its prime in the early 19th century and although restricted by the size of its suburb, was able to win the Galbraith shield in 1910.  Those were the days when it was a huge thing to beat the likes of Pirates, Invercargill and Star.
Jim was well known in the Underwood, Lorneville and West Plains district and when he retired from the game he put a lot back into it by supporting the club for many years.
He was the manager of the New Zealand milk products factory at Underwood and upon retirement went to live in Oamaru.
He was a well respected sportsman, friend and business colleague.
