Civil Service I continued their winning way in the 1956 Men's hockey senior competition. They easily beat Old Boys 5-1.
A scrappy game on the Queens Park ground between Central and Civil Service II was won by the Central side 7-3
Civil Service played a much faster and more open game than their opponents, Old Boys. The deciding factor in the game was the fact that the Civil Service players understood each other and were all on the same wave length, this was the only real deciding factory which gave them the win. Old Boys played well throughout the field but missed the final crucial goal by either a mis-direct pass or lacking punch to get the ball through the defence.
For Service Wyeth in the backs and Calvert in the forwards played good games, and Old Boys needed to contain these two players better and make them work harder.
Once again Robinson was the outstanding player for Old Boys.
Slippery ground conditions slowed the game down in the Central V Civil Service II game, Although the game was scrappy at times it did have some good moments. Central only played with 9 men and it was a credit to them that they were able to win by such a large margin.
The veteran half, D. Semmens was again the mainstay of the Central team and he scored 5 goals with A. Naylor (2) W. Freeman (2), and D. Butler (2)
For Civil Service II - I. Hodkinson (1)
