Grant McKenzie scores all Woodlands 9 points to draw with Old Boys 1986....

In 1986 Star and Invercargill were at the top of the Galbraith Shield ladder and Woodlands would be disappointed that they only managed a draw against Old Boys.  Opportunities were missed and a win could have made the home run easier for Woodlands.

Both teams missed vital kicks with first five eight, Grant McKenzie for Woodlands missing two kicks with four minutes to go and full-back for Old Boys, Brian Bell missing a kick just after half time.  The thing is that teams can not rely on their kickers and they have to find the opportunities to score the tries.
Geoff Scully realised he had to bring his backline in more so his winger could find room, and when this happened Old Boy's Wayne Christie scored out wide. Try was converted by Brian Bell.
This gave Old Boy's the confidence and they started to grow into the game and ensured they got in Woodland's faces.  Grant McKenzie though rose to the challenge and scored a fine individual try and converted.  He also added a penalty goal two minutes before.
Both teams after half time started playing defensive rugby which meant they were too busy defending instead of attacking and getting points on the board.
It ended up a dour game with neither team changing tact.
