Graeme Thomson bowls well for Southand Colts but batsmen do not finish the job in 1969.....4/19/2016 The Southland Cricket Colts team showed off their bowlers in a match against Western Districts from New South Wales, but unfortunately could not beat them in their batting which saw them all out for 80 compared to 121. ![]() Southland captain, John Mahoney, and his team had the advantage when they bowled the visitors out for 121. The opening bowlers for Southland G. Thompson and M. Barclay, were accurate enough but a bit more aggression was probably needed. Left armer, Thomson made some good deliveries and it was his diligence that gave him the most wanted wicket of the day in S. Webster. The ball took off the left leg bail as Webster tried to play the off side. Mahoney then put himself on as bowler and his left armed spins came on to the right handed batsmen and in six overs he took five for 14. The best catch of the day came from Southland leg slip, T. Thornton, who took a brillant catch to dismiss R. Manuel. The Southland opening batsmen, N. Adam and R. Roy had a good start but then Roy was caught off Sies, off the medium fast right armer, Culverson. Culverson then had Adam caught by Manuel when he was on 23 and Mahoney caught at leg gully off a full toss for nil. A hat trick was looking impending for Culverson but Southlander, J. Corkery survived and stayed in for a further 36 minutes where he was caught by Oakley off Webster. The only time the Southland looked like a threat on attack was the stand between Barclay and Thornton for the seventh wicket. The former attacked aggressively and managed two fours but his luck was out when he was bowled by a new bowler in Thomas. Thornton carried on but did not get the support he needed with the tail end and the side only managed a tally of 80. Southland: N. Adam, R. Roy, J. Mahoney, J. Corkery, J. Polson, D. Rae, B. McKechnie, M. Barclay, T. Thornton, P. Higgins, G. Thomson. Western Districts (NSW): A. Farley, R. Sies, S. Webster, D. Morris, R. Thomas, R. Oakley, D. Croome, K. Maiden, T. Colley, R. Manuel, J.
