Senior Men's hockey in Invercargill in 1983 saw Collegiate beat Phoenix 6-1.  It was probably the fact that Collegiate controlled the muddy conditions better.  It was a repeat of previous games between these two sides with both teams being even in the first half and it was no different this time with the score being 1-1 at half time

The field was cut up and Murray Paterson scored the goal for Phoenix and Graeme Balfour replied for
Collegiate.
Collegiate's second goal came shortly after half time when David Balfour at the edge of the cirlcle slammed the ball through the defence but it struck the keeper's foot.  Robert Price was in the right place for the rebound where he gathered the ball on to his stick and netted it.
Balfour at centre was always attacking and managed to get past the defence and he was instrumental in the goal scored by Gary Jones.
Phoenix did have moments where Peter Ophuis and Murray Patterson looked threatening on the wings.
Trevor Flannery scored Collegiate's fifth goal.
Collegiate was on top of the table with 17 points.
Civil Service and Tuis
Barry Neilson led the attack for Service up the middle and showed good change of pace.  But the goals never came for either team.
Ross Beale scored for Tuis as well as Geoff Bell.
Russell Molloy played well for Tuis and his opposite Chris Bell played well for Service.
