Notes from communities in 1939 were as: 
MAKAREWA NOTES:

Mr and Mrs H. Cooper and Mr and Mrs M. Kitto, were amongst the guests present at the home of Mrs Beal, Teviot Street, at a farewell party in honour of Mrs Looby and her son, who are leaving shortly for their home in Australia.
Miss Ethel Mortimer is spending the weekend at Bluff as the guest of Miss Beverley Barnes.
Misses Jean Potts and Bonna Jones are spending this week in Invercargill being the local representatives at the Girl's Educational Week. Mrs Hawkey and her daughter, Timaru, have been the guests of Mrs Percy Brown, North Road.
Mrs W. Shand, accompanied by her son, Graham, are at present spending a holiday in Dunedin.
Mrs A. Bell, Janet Street, Invercargill visited friends during the week.
Mrs J. Davidson and her son, William motored to Christchurch en route to Wellington, where they will be present at the wedding of Miss Ruby Crosland, formerly of Makarewa to Mr R. Shennon.
Miss Gladys Waldron, Dee Street, was in Makarewa this week being the guest of her mother, Mrs Frank Waldron, Flora Road.
Mr and Mrs G. A. Weavers motored to Wingatui last Saturday.
Mrs J. Smith and her daughter, Shirley Invercargill were the guests of Mrs D. Smart.
Rough weather marred the attendance at the weekly euchre held on Wednesday in aid of the Women's Division funds.  The winners were Miss Isabel Chisholm, and Mr L. Rogers, while the consolation prizes went to Miss Dorrie Chisholm, and Mr W. Cundall respectively.
RIVERTON NOTES
Mrs H. J. Walden, Havelock Street, has returned from spending a short holiday in Dunedin.
Miss Joyce Gray, Dunedin is the guest of her grand-mother, Mrs E. H. Gray, Palmerston street.
Miss Mona Carmody and miss Marie Eccleton were visitors to Invercargill on Monday evening for the Dominican Convent ex-pupils Ball.
OREPUKI NOTES.
Miss G. Garden has been visiting Dunedin.
Miss McAllister, who has been visiting relations here, left for Kaitangata.
Mr and Mrs J. Fotheringham were recent visitors to Orepuki.
Mrs Halpine is the guest of her mother, Mrs S. Wolfe.
Mrs McKewon, Invercargill, has been the guest of her sister Mrs T. Latchford.
COLAC BAY  NOTES
Miss Clarice Wixon left last week for an extended holiday with friends in Hastings.
Miss Jessie Hodge (Invercargill) visited her parents recently.
Mrs Martin (Dunedin) has returned to her home.
Mrs P. Devereaux left on Wednesday morning, for Invercargill, where she will be the guest of her sister for two weeks, before taking up residence in Balclutha.
Miss Anne Cleaver (Riverton) spent a few days with her sister Mrs J.E. Crengle.
Mr and Mrs M. Horan, jnr; have taken up their residence in Riverton.
​Mrs Hartley, Wellington has returned home.
