Welcome to Yacck - we hope you have great pleasure in reading the stories from the past and would love you to make positive comments for everyone to enjoy. The Yacck Team.
Southland soccer had one of their best seasons in 1967 and although they lost to Otago five goals to two it was their great performance and skills that wowed the crowd. Southland spectators would have been shaking their heads to wonder how they still managed to loss the Keach Cup with their team playing such great soccer.
The only weak link in the side was the fact that the ball had to go into the goal as Southland's passing and understand was of high standard. It seemed to be the goalies that must take the credit in Stephenson of Otago.
The forwards played extremely well but just did not captalise on the good work.
Not to single out any one player but it must be said that Doug Ottley who was then approaching his veteran years was at his usual brillant best. He never seems to age as a player and is probably supplying better football than ever.
Sinclair at centre forward produced his best club form and Davidson, a surprise selection, did his work well. A. McMurdo scored one of the teams goal against Otago.
