Central beat Northern 29-11 in the rugby Sport Trust competition in 1983.  Northern failed to take opportunities and paid the price with Central playing as a team.

It was the loose forwards for Central that paved the way for their win.  With Leicester Rutledge leading the way at captain and his support duo of Donny Lewis and No. 8 Bob Shaw - what more did they need.
Donny Lewis scored an exceptional try which started back on Northern's try line.
Central's locks, brothers, Colin McDonald and Brian McDonald were strong in gathering the ball in.
Northern forward pack was actually the heavier one and it dented their pride when a tighthead was stolen from them. It was also disappointing form them that they did not make their kickoff's  more effective because all they kept doing was giving the ball back to Central.

60 Min - A scrum was forced by Central from a terrible kick-off and Donny Lewis tidied up where he fed Rutledge who took the ball into Northern's 22, setting up a copy book ruck, the ball was spun wide for Alan Hamilton to outdo the defence and score.
72 Min - Saw Ryan for Northern kick ahead for his backs to get up, but the ball was gathered by full-back Roger Stevens for Central who sped off down the touchline.  He offloaded to Rutledge who kept on and was waiting for Hamilton to pass to but Donny Lewis came thundering down on the outside of him so he got the ball instead and ran 40 metres to score a great try.  Wayne McCallum converted.
